Seiser Alm Moonlight Ski Marathon
The Seiser Alm is one of Europe's largest high alpine pastures. It lies near Seis am Schlern in the Dolomites of South Tyrol, near Bolzano. It is approximately 1,600 to 2,300 m high and covers about 57 km². The Seiser Alm is very popular with skiers and snowboarders. It offers around 60 km of ski runs and approximately 60 km of cross-country trails. There are also two ski schools, a snowboard park and modern ski lifts. Besides skiing and snowboarding, ice skating and tobogganing are also popular on the Seiser Alm. Seis has lovely restaurants, cafés, hotels and shops.

The Schlern summit, a landmark of Tyrol, borders the Seiser Alm. The Schlern is one of the most fascinating landscapes in the Dolomites. Together with the Seiser Alm, it forms the Schlern-Rosengarten Nature Park.
Now the Seiser Alm beckons to night owls. The full moon nights on January 23, February 22 and March 21 promise romance. In the magic of moonlight and torchlight, visitors can explore the alpine pasture. The second Moonlight Classic starts on the first full moon night, January 23.
The Seiser Alm Moonlight Classic is a cross-country ski marathon. Several hundred racers follow trails marked with torches, skiing by the light of their headlamps. There are two routes. The very challenging one is 42 km long. The shorter, 17 km route is easy. Both lead back to the starting point in Compatsch.
A music program provides entertainment from around 4 p.m. The ski marathon starts at about 8 p.m. At around 10 p.m., the winners of the second Moonlight Classic Ski Marathon cross the finish line. The awards ceremony follows in the festival tent.
The Seis-Seiser Alm cable car will carry visitors until 1 a.m. on all three full moon nights. A horse-drawn carriage ride by moonlight is also very romantic. These fascinating events are not to be missed.
