Winter Golf South Tyrol

Some people play golf indoors. Others travel around the world to play golf. True golf enthusiasts head to wintry Rein in the Tauferer Ahrntal. That is where the third South Tyrolean Winter Golf Challenge takes place. It kicks off on February 23, 2008, in the idyllic mountain village of Rein in the far north of South Tyrol. At an altitude of 1,600 m, Rein is one of the highest villages in South Tyrol.

Winter golf originated in the USA. The first tournament came to Europe in 1979, on the ice of Lake St. Moritz in Switzerland. Today, winter golf enthusiasts can be found in 6 European countries.

Majestic glaciers rising to over 3,000 metres form a breathtaking panorama above the mountain village of Rein. For a ski holiday, the Tauferer Ahrntal offers a wonderfully sunny plateau. You can also enjoy the beautiful setting while playing golf. The cross-country skiing centre serves as the golf clubhouse. You can sit comfortably on the sun terrace and watch the shots.

True golf pros see no handicap in ice and cold. Bad weather doesn’t count—the only thing that’s wrong is the clothing. Winter golfers wrap up warmly in hats and scarves. And off they go. The rules stay the same—only in winter, you play with brightly coloured golf balls so they’re easier to find in the snow. What’s more, “Green” naturally becomes “White”. Golf fans can also look forward to a VIP tournament featuring top international athletes. The varied supporting programme showcases the charming Tauferer Ahrntal.

The small ski area offers easy to intermediate slopes for a ski holiday. Skiing against the backdrop of the glaciers rising to over 3,000 metres is an impressive experience.
