Kitzsteinhorn Ice Camp Opening
A new highlight is getting underway at the Kitzsteinhorn in Austria’s Salzburg region. The Volvo XC Ice Camp opens on January 12, 2008. The Ice Camp was built using around 60 tonnes of ice and approximately 5,000 square metres of snow. Created in about a month, sometimes in unfavourable weather conditions, it is quite a sight. A unique lifestyle camp in the fascinating glacier world of the Kitzsteinhorn.
The Volvo XC ICE CAMP covers around 2,000 square metres. It is located at an altitude of approximately 2,500 metres. The organisers have announced many attractions for the opening. Sporting events, culinary treats and great music will create a lively atmosphere.
The igloo area is impressive. Four interconnected igloos made of snow each have a diameter of 12 metres. They stand in the main Ice Camp area, where the new Volvo XC70 will also be displayed on enormous blocks of ice. The Ice Bar, with its unique atmosphere, is sensational too. Even the glasses are made of solid ice. Seven igloos invite visitors to enjoy the adventure of an overnight stay at the Kitzsteinhorn.
According to the organisers, the opening programme is free for visitors: Ice Camp tours, Icetower climbing, freestyle sessions, snowboard, ski and mobile phone testing, safety workshops, drinks and snacks, prize draws, and more.
The Ice Camp is due to remain open until Easter, or longer if suitable winter weather continues. This highlight in the ski area is not to be missed.
