Ski holidays in the Black Forest

A ski holiday in a wine region may seem hard to imagine. In the Black Forest, there’s no reason why not. Fine wine ripens on the western edge of the Black Forest. The Kaiserstuhl is renowned for its excellent wines. Grapes even grow on the steep mountain slopes of Glottertal. These are among Germany’s highest vineyards, reaching up to 500 m.

Glottertal offers many culinary delights. Glottertal wine is a perfect accompaniment—perhaps a fine red Pinot Noir. The area is blessed with plenty of sunshine, and so are the grapes, especially on the steep slopes. According to measurements, Ihringen on the Kaiserstuhl is Germany’s warmest place. The popular Belchen ski resort is nearby. At 1,414 m, it is the third-highest peak in the Black Forest. Its unique panoramic views stretch all the way to the Swiss Alps. To the northeast, you can see Feldberg, the highest mountain in the Black Forest (1,493 m). Belchen is popular for family ski holidays thanks to its easy to intermediate slopes. Snow conditions are fairly reliable, and lift queues are rare. The highlight is the 3 km-long Donauwellen run.

Feldberg offers top conditions for a ski holiday, with runs ranging from beginner slopes to World Cup pistes. The Feldberg lift network includes Todtnauberg, Feldberg Ski Centre, Muggenbrunn, Menzenschwand and Altglashütten. Sunny Todtnauberg has well-groomed slopes for beginners and experts alike.

At 1,243 m, Kandel is also one of the highest peaks in the Black Forest. Beginners and experts alike will find an appealing place to ski here. Snow often stays on Kandel’s summit until spring. Snowboarders can let loose in the Boarderpark Paradies. When snow conditions are good, two lifts have floodlights.

The Black Forest has more than 200 ski lifts and 12 ski jumps, as well as around 250 km of groomed slopes. There are 22 ski areas:
