Skiing in the Zillertal
The Zillertal Ski Opening is set to be a blast. The long-awaited fresh snow has arrived. The following lifts are expected to open on November 17/18 and 24/25, 2007: Horbergbahn, Lärchwald, Penken, Schneekar and Tappenalm. Continuous winter operations are then scheduled to begin on December 1. Ahorn will probably follow in mid-December. Almost 1.50 m of wonderful fresh snow has fallen. The winter of 2006 was much too warm for winter sports enthusiasts. At last, we can start thinking about a ski holiday again!

At 1,800 m, Penken and Ahorn are among Austria’s highest winter sports areas. They are therefore already considered snow-sure. The Zillertal has also invested in improving and expanding its snowmaking facilities. Any shortage of natural snow can be made up for. This year’s early start to winter has been enthusiastically welcomed. Snowboarders and skiers can hardly wait to hit the slopes.
The Zillertal winter opening “snow.break” gets into full swing on December 7. DJ Lorenzo al Dino presents the CD “Mountain de Luxe Vol. 2”—one of the many highlights and the motto of this sensational ski opening. Stylish parties and après-ski are on the agenda. Dancing and cool music.
The unique views of 55 peaks over 3,000 metres are hard to beat. The Kristallhütte in the Hochzillertal Kaltenbach ski area offers a magnificent panoramic view—probably one of the most beautiful in the Alps, with a full 360-degree vista. The highlight, the Kristall Lounge, opens for “snow.break.” “Wellness de Luxe” features an outdoor fireplace, heated waterbeds and cosy sofa corners.
Snowboard fans can look forward to the Vans Penken Park Mayrhofen. For years, it has ranked among Europe’s best fun parks. Zillertal cuisine has also won numerous awards. Add more than 600 km of perfectly groomed slopes for a ski holiday, as well as over 170 state-of-the-art cable cars and ski lifts, and mountain-hut magic de luxe.
All across the Zillertal, ski holiday offers are second to none. The Zillertal “de Luxe” Opening is not to be missed.
