New Year's Ski Jumping in Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Garmisch-Partenkirchen has special highlights to offer this winter season. For the first time, the New Year's ski jumping competition will take place on the newly built hill. SchneeSTART, beginning on December 1, kicks off a fantastic program. The Winter Sports and Culture Weeks follow from December 23. Sporting contests and cultural highlights are on the agenda.

December 25 begins with a sensational performance at the Olympia Ice Sports Center. The Moscow Ice Circus, said to be the first of its kind in the world, will enchant audiences. Another highlight is Swan Lake on Ice, performed by the St. Petersburg State Ballet on January 3. Classical music lovers can enjoy works by Smetana and Dvořák performed by the Czech Symphony Orchestra on January 6.

Sports fans can look forward to another fascinating event in Germany's winter sports mecca. They are eagerly anticipating the New Year's ski jumping competition on January 1. After 56 years, the time has come: the Four Hills Tournament will be held for the first time on Garmisch-Partenkirchen's new ski jumping hill.

A trial run for the new facility is also planned. The Continental Cup ski jumping event is scheduled for December 21. By then, the major necessary work is expected to be completed. There have been obstacles in the construction of the ski jumping hill in Garmisch. According to reports, the lift to the top probably will not be ready in time. The ski jumpers are expected to climb up on foot. Despite the construction delays, the New Year's ski jumping competition is still set to go ahead as planned.

After the winter season, the Kandahar and the snowmaking facilities will be further expanded. FIS requirements for piste width and fall zones will be observed. This makes sense not only in view of the upcoming Olympics. It will also further improve and modernize this magnificent ski resort.
