The more than year-long construction of the Ice Palace was worth it. The throne room is particularly impressive. The Acropolis Gate and even the floor have been recreated in the eternal ice. The Blue Salon and the Crystal Dome also fascinate visitors to this unique ice world. Cool lighting and sound effects enhance the mysterious magic of the ice. It is hard to resist its mystique.

Over several weeks of work, five prominent Chinese ice sculptors created the gigantic ice artwork, starting in May. The Ice Palace is also home to some very special, well-known characters: Ice Age movie stars Diego, Manny, Sid and Scrat. Some of the figures weigh up to 700 kg. They were part of the annual Ice World exhibition in Lübeck. By moving to the Ice Palace, they escaped the fate of melting ice.

At the entrance to the Ice Palace, the formation of glaciers is explained in a simple and easy-to-understand way. It is open all year round, even in bad weather. The Dachstein Glacier cable car station is just a 3-minute walk away.

The Ice Palace is another attraction drawing visitors to the Dachstein Glacier, along with the 2,700 m-high Skywalk Platform. It takes courage to step onto the truly spectacular Skywalk Platform, as it sits above a 250 m-high sheer drop. “Skywalkers” on the platform’s glass floor are rewarded for their bravery. The breathtaking view straight down and panoramic vistas of some of the most beautiful Alpine peaks will remain unforgettable.
