Visitor record in Zell am See

Austrian ski resorts are reporting record visitor numbers. Leading the way is the “Europa Sport Region” — Zell am See and Kaprun — which reports a strong start to winter. In December 2006, overnight stays were up by almost 20 percent compared with the same period the previous year. The Europa Sport Region has good reason to be proud, as the start of winter in Austria had not brought much snow. Zell am See can therefore score points even in adverse weather conditions.

Mostly German ski holidaymakers

Once again, most visitors to the Europa Sport Region are German ski holidaymakers. Relaxation and good snow conditions on offer helped generate 56,000 overnight stays in December by German winter holidaymakers in Zell am See and Kaprum, in the heart of the Pinzgau region. The next largest visitor groups came from the Netherlands, Austria itself and Great Britain. Eastern Europeans are also heading to the Austrian ski region: Romanians now account for more than 6,000 overnight stays, while Polish guests stayed in Zell am See–Kaprun 5,900 times. A further 4,000 overnight stays by Ukrainians, along with numerous guests from the Baltic states, have also contributed to a positive balance.

Winter holidaymakers know that the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier always offers good piste conditions, even when there is little snowfall. At an altitude of 3,000 meters, the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier is an ideal venue for numerous events: Austria’s biggest winter opening, the ONE Snow Jam, is held here, and the Roxy Chicken Jam, the world’s largest women’s snowboard event, also took place in the Europa Sport Region for the first time last year.

Attractive travel deals round out the overall package. Families and spontaneous travelers, for example, can enjoy a range of benefits with the Schnee-Okay packages. For affordable spring skiing, there are the Schnee-Okay spring-skiing packages. These offers promise excellent prospects for welcoming many happy guests next season as well.
