Ski holidays with children 2010

Ski enthusiasts will find an ever-growing number of winter resorts geared towards the needs of families with children. In the Alps, family-friendliness is once again a top priority for the 2010 season. In this year’s edition of the “SkiGuide”, ADAC has examined a total of 205 winter-sports regions in the Alps.

One of the categories ADAC uses to assess ski areas is family-friendliness. This includes checking whether lift passes and ski lessons for children are affordable, as well as whether the restaurants, lifts and dedicated practice areas are suitable for young skiers. For older children, it is more important to see whether the needs of teenagers have also been considered, with the region offering snow parks equipped with half-pipes, boxes and rails. A network of winter walking trails for parents with very young children who are not yet ready to ski is also among the criteria in the ADAC “SkiGuide”.

These are the criteria ADAC uses to assess ski areas. As in the previous year, top ski areas include the Austrian Montafon ski region, Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria, and the Italian ski areas of Seiser Alm and Kronplatz, where children up to the age of 8 can use the lifts for free.
