Shahdag is one of the largest tourism projects in Azerbaijan. Opening of the track was one of the stages of resort developing. After completion of all works the resort will receive up to 10,000 people per day.

Construction of the ski resort, located near the towns of Aladag and Laza, began in 2009. On February 28, 2011 President of Azerbaijan solemnly opened a ski lift and the track â„– 2.

Shahdag ski resort after completion will offer its guests ski slopes, opportunities for other winter sports, as well as to stay in comfortable cottages and hotels. Hotels in Shahdag will be represented in all major price categories: 5, 4 and 3 stars.

On the eve of the track opening, on February 18, 2011 in Shahdag were launched new snowmaking systems. In total, the resort is equipped with 69 such devices. In the test mode were launched 15 of them.

At present, the construction of ski resort in Shahdag is still going on. As noted by the Ministry of Tourism of the country, the project is completed by 50%. In construction of Shahdag are involved companies from Austria, Turkey, USA, Italy, Sweden and the UAE.

Until 2012 at the resort it is planned to open four ski slopes. In 2011 at the resort it is also planned to present the first ski hotel.

2011 was declared the year of tourism in Azerbaijan.

It is worth noting that ski resorts are being developed not only in Azerbaijan, but also in other countries of the Caucasus. In Georgia is going on campaign on creating the ski resort 15 minutes drive from Tbilisi. The authorities also plan to build a factory for the production of alpine skies.
