Russia beckons with ski holidays and heliskiing
Russian ski resorts are not very well known in Germany. They are located in the Altai Mountains, on the slopes of the Caucasus, on the ski runs of the Urals or near Kamchatka. Some have just one ski lift and a single bar. Others, however, are very appealing thanks to their magnificent freeride slopes. Untouched powder snow in wild landscapes attracts visitors from abroad. A ski holiday in Russia has less to do with groomed runs and modern ski lifts. Russia is all about a ski holiday adventure.

Russia's ski resorts offer reliable snow conditions and improving infrastructure. They are very romantic, and the number of ski holidaymakers is constantly rising.
Sochi is probably Russia's best-known ski resort, thanks to the 2014 Winter Olympics. Sochi has more than 330,000 residents and stretches for over 145 kilometres along the northeastern coast of the Black Sea. The Olympic city has a subtropical climate, with hot summer months and mild, short winters.
At higher altitudes, the ski season lasts from November until early June. The Winter Olympics will be held here in 2014. Winter temperatures are fairly low, at around 5°C.
Nearby Krasnaya Polyana (Red Meadow) will be the venue for Olympic events. It lies at the foot of Mount Aibga, just 40 km from the airport and 60 km from Sochi city centre. For now, this holiday paradise is still an insider tip—but probably not for long. Infrastructure is being expanded. The romantic landscape features crystal-clear lakes, sunny autumns and mild winter temperatures.
Heliskiing is also popular in Russia. Krasnaya Polyana offers excellent conditions: the amount and quality of the snow are ideal for heliskiing, and the resort is not far from Europe.
A summer holiday in Russia is also appealing. You can, for example, go mountain biking off the beaten track. Beautiful landscapes are waiting to be discovered, along with the warm hospitality of the Russian people. The Altai region, Karelia and the Kamchatka Peninsula are all options.
