In the current season leading Russian politics, entertainers and oligarchs advertise famous French ski resort Courchevel not so intensively. While the global financial recession rules in the world Russian government insistently recommended official persons not to visit one of the most expensive ski resorts. That is why many of Russia’s leaders and their subordinates set out to Austria instead of French Alps. Naturally, the crew of notorious party chiks and dudes headed by Ksenia Sobchak and Timaty landed in Courchevel, but representativeness of Russian frequent party goers is rather poor in comparison with “the golden age” of Courchevel.
But it is very likely that Courchevel inhabitants – sick and tired of constant scandals and quarrels of Russian loud and proud “beau monde” – are not so worried with such a change. Now they have a real chance to improve its reputation of “one of the most expensive ski resorts” and “Russian resort in France” by adding an epithet of “a cultural centre”.
Thus, starting from December 5, 2009 in Courchevel has been held a unique event – the open air exhibition of Salvador Dalí’s sculptures named “Dalí at the Top”. In total, fourteen impressive pieces of art created by the famous surrealist are exhibited right on the slopes and streets of Courchevel. All those sculptures exhibited at this famous ski resort are provided by Stratton Foundation. The Courchevel authorities dedicated the event to the 20th anniversary since the day of great artist’s death.
Dalí’s works of art can be seen not only on the streets of Courchevel but also in some unusual places like on the top of mount Vizelle at altitude of 2,659 m. The other places are the tourist office square, the place du Forum and la Croisette. The Courchevel municipality published a special map featuring all the places where the sculptures can be found.
“Dalí at the Top” exhibition will last until April 24, 2010.
