Three Austrian glacier ski areas are still functioning – namely Dachstein, Kaunertal and Tux. Kitzsteinhorn Glacier is scheduled to reopen on June 10th. This weekend also Les 2 Alpes glacier located in France plans to open again. In Switzerland only Zermatt is currently open. In Italy skiers can still have fun on the slopes of Presena Glacier and Passo Stelvio glacier. Scandinavia still provides great possibilities for summer skiing. Thus, in Norway skiers can choose from Stryn, Folgefonn and Galhoppigen glaciar sky areas.
In the USA Arapahoe Basin situated in Colorado closes on June 7th. Snowbird in Utah is already almost closed – ahead of expected schedule – due to weather conditions. "Due to recent warm temperatures, rain and rapid snowpack melting in the past week, Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort announced today that they are closed for the 2008/09 season, and will not be reopening this weekend as previously planned," informed a statement released by resorts management.
Thus, only Mammoth Mountain located in California and Timberline in Oregon keep waiting for the guests. But Mammoth is most likely to be closed in a week. "There is only a week left to enjoy skiing and snowboarding in Mammoth for the season so now is the time to head up. Mammoth Mountain is currently operating chairs from 7:30am to 1:00pm daily. The 8am temp at Main Lodge this morning was 48 degrees with light winds. Up at the summit, the 8am temp was 36 degrees with light winds. As of 8am, Broadway Express, Face Lift Express and Chair 23 are running out of Main Lodge," said the press release published in the beginning of this week.
