Tour de Grand Veymont
Tour de Grand Veymont

The Tour de Grand Veymont ski mountaineering competition, the first leg of the Grenoble Trois Massif competition (that represents the three mountain ranges surrounding Grenoble - The Vercors, Belledonne and Chartreuse), will take place on Sunday 1st February 2009. The other legs are the Croix de Chamrousse scheduled on the February 15th and the Croix de Chamechaude which will hold on the March 8th.

The Tour de Grand Veymont along with the popular Pierra Menta is a part of the Alpi Ski tour organized by he Fédération Française des Clubs Alpins de Montagne (FFCAM). Individual competitors equipped with either skis or snowboards may participate in the competitions. The vertical is about 1.800 m for adult contestants and 1.000 m for youngsters. For the safety of competitors – no matter of their skills - the technical passages are equipped.

This year the Tour starts from the ski resort of Gresse en Vercors. About 200 competitors are expected to conquer a new route designed this year. They are to climb two couloirs lying across the eastern ramparts of the Vercors range and traverse the Vecors nature reserve. There is a special route designed for youngsters, but both circuits are very challenging. The spectators will have a chance to take a guided introductory course to ski touring and an avalanche beacon training session.
