The 15th annual Ice Magic Carving Festival starts on January 23rd at The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in Alberta, Canada. This 34-hour long event gathers teams of professional ice carvers to compete in making huge pieces of art from 300-pound ice blocks. Weather forecasts for the weekend predict heavy snowfall, so it should add even more magic to the festival.
This year the competitors are to create a sculpture illustrating the theme "Rhythm Of Nature Within The Canadian Rockies" that deals with the wildlife and ecosystems preservation in this enormous immaculate wilderness of Canada’s first national park. A lot of various wild animals, such as elk, deer, moose, grizzly bears, cougars, etc., wander around these protected woodlands unperturbed by human beings.
The Ice Magic Festival is authorized by the National Ice Carving Association. This year twelve international teams consisting of three carvers each will compete in speed, precision and artistry while creating their ice masterpieces. And kids are invited to visit the Little Chippers Festival held in Samson Mall of Lake Louise Village, where they will be provided an excellent opportunity to learn the basics of ice carving.
According to Banff Lake Louise official website “free hot chocolate, coffee and cookies, learn[ing] to drive a dog sled, interact[ing] with the local Fire Department, face painting, walk[ing] the Wilson’s Mountain Sports and Samson’s Mall Enchanted Forest ice maze and more” will add to the festive air of the festival which will be “fun for the entire family”.
