Famous Swiss ski resort Zermatt situated at the northern foot of the mount Matterhorn in the district of Visp, canton of Valais, has enlarged its freeride area located on the slopes of Stockhorn. Funs of freeride, a relatively new but very popular and rapidly progressing discipline, now has got access to a reconstructed mountain station placed at height of 3405 meters on Stockhorn using a new lift.
This new lift has been provided by Zermatt’s lift company after the Hohtaelli-Stockhorn cable railway was closed. So now expert freeriders can discover and conquer the area of Triftji/Stockhorn slope, which is well suited for the purpose. Amazing vistas are also guaranteed – behind is Dufourspitze situated, the highest mountain peak of the country.
Note: Zermatt is the highest ski area in Europe characterized by longevity of ski season – the resort is opened all year round, skiing is possible until summer. It consists of four ski areas: Sunnegga, Gornergrat, Klein Matterhorn and Schwarzsee. Zermatt also has connection with Italian ski resorts Cervinia and Valtournenche.
Zermatt is vehicle-free zone, which means that no combustion engine cars and other means of transportation allowed in the whole town (exceptior is made only for emergency vehicles). Electrically powered vehicles are permitted to be used by local commercial organizations and companies. Such strict regulations enabled efficient air pollution prevention. It makes Zermatt “the perfect Alpine resort for rest and relaxation.”
