The coming winter is rolling near and nearer. More and more European ski resorts are already opened or are scheduled to start new season very soon. By the end of the last week Austrian Obergurgl joined other already opened local glacier ski areas.
Some mountain regions in Italia also received plenty of snow powder. Thus, Livigno situated in Sondrio province began operating two week ahead of the scheduled date. As a welcome gift this resort offers to use the lifts free of charge until this Friday. The Dolomiti Superski area consisting of 12 ski regions and providing about 1,200 km of pistes also was recently blessed with up to 30 cm of snow. Its spokesperson reported: “This is a good sign for the winter opening on November 29 on the great slopes in the most beautiful mountains of the world.”
Some Swiss ski resorts also started functioning. Recently St Moritz and Verbier joined opened earlier Engelberg, Diablerets and Zermatt (the latter already opened its connection with Cervinia in Italy). Saas-Fee situated in the district Visp in the canton Valais also receives snow sports amateurs.
And even more good news. After heavy snowfalls, the biggest Spanish ski resort Formigal launched the season on November 15th. This is its earliest opening for the last 15 years. Formigal staff did its best to get ready for this glorious event. As a result, more 63 km of pistes were ready before the opening and 137 km more will follow by the end of this week.
