Killington’s Anniversary To Be Celebrated In December

Bear Mountain in Killington
Bear Mountain in Killington

In December this year Killington, Vermont, will hold festivities on account of its 50th anniversary. This largest in the Eastern part of North America ski area was opened on December 13, 1958. In the early years it had only drag lifts and seven ski runs.

Nowadays it is one of the most important ski resorts on the continent spreading across seven mountain peaks. It offers 140km of pistes (much more than while back) two thirds of which are equipped with snow cannon systems and more than 30 lifts, mostly chairs and gondolas.

Killington is well known for its starter courses for beginners – either skiers or snowboarders. For first time snowborders custom made snowboards are used, they are specially designed to decrease rider’s risk of falling over. But intermediate pistes are also aplenty there.

For the upcoming season a number of improvements and enhancements was made including installation of the Sky Peak Express, a cutting edge high speed lift, opening of new runs for beginners and expert skiers and a new terrain park imitating natural landscapes.
