Heavy snowfalls that took place over the Mount Hutt in New Zealand during the last week left huge snowdrifts up to three meters deep in some places. The ski area is closed on account of difficult weather conditions.
But ski area’s manager Dave Wilson is optimistic: “We're very happy, we are amped. This is a huge dump and while it will be wind affected, we're looking forward to a powder day tomorrow. It's shaping up to be the best day of the season so far.”
Thick snow layer made possible to open all areas around lake Wanaka. Cardrona opened on Friday, June 27, Snow Park NZ opened at the weekend and the third area - Treble Cone – on June 30. So all the areas are digging out the snowdrifts and waiting for the skiers.
Snowfalls have also come to Australia. The largest country’s ski resort Perisher Blue has got about 15 centimeters of fresh fluffy snow. This white downfall and snowguns blasting on Perisher Valley, Blue Cow and Smiggin Holes created rather decent snow cover. There are 11 lifts functioning in Perisher Blue at the moment. And the weather forecast for the next several days is favorable predicting more 10-15 centimeters а snow to fall down.
