Water Deficit

If the previous winter was lack of snow, then this winter seems to be the lack of water. Of course, the measures were taken. I.e. in the Alps in the region of Hautes there were entered some restrictions. Now people of the region can’t water their gardens or wash cars. It is explained by the fact that the amount of water in one of the largest water reservoirs has reached its minimum. Now the average level of water in the lake lac de Serre-Ponçon is extremely low – 20 meter lower from its maximum.

There is a hope that the lake will be able to restore its water level during the winter but, as some scientists say, there should be no less snow than 5 – 6 meters high in order to improve the situation.

The previous winter many ski resorts invested their money into snow cannons in order to provide their pistes with enough snow. Of course, the water was taken from the natural resources of water and the charge of water was extremely high. The ecologists say that this can lead to an ecological disaster because during the process of making snow usually 20 – 30 per cent of water evaporates in the air. Though the resorts say that everything they take from the nature is returned back to it.

Anyway, the result of this is evident now and people do all their best to prevent the ecological catastrophe in the Alps.
