Even though there was a good snowfall at the beginning of this ski season, all the same many Alpine ski resorts will compete with many other ski resorts now.
Global warming made many European ski resorts to think of new ways of attracting tourists to their mountains as skiing and snowboarding is not the only way to make money nowadays. Due to the recent climate changes there was less snow on the lower altitudes and the glaciers started to melt. Of course, there is still the way out of the situation but it won’t be used always. It is very expensive to make the artificial snow, especially if the resort is small.
Tourism is one of the main spheres in the Alps that helps people to earn for a living. Ski resorts provide up to 12% of working places for people living in the resort.
But global warming is not the only problem that many Alpine ski resorts face today. There have appeared many other Eastern European ski resorts that become more and more popular within each day: i.e. ski and snowboard in the Balkans and Caucasus. And very often the prices are much less there than in the Alps. Besides, soon the Alps will be competing with such places like Scandinavia, Scotland, etc. that are also very nice and beautiful.
