Chamonix is going to start a new program for winter season 2007/2008. The title of the program is “Ski Ambassadors”. The main aim of the program is to find the volunteers who will help skiers and tourists to be guided in the district, provide them with the necessary information and “animate” ski queues in the morning.
The volunteers, or the “ski ambassadors” as they are called, will provide many tourists with extra customer service and make their holidays in Chamonix only more pleasant. The program has also been approved by Compagnie du Mont Blanc, and if it is a success this season, it will be accepted for further seasons.
The “ski ambassadors” will perform the next functions: early in the morning they will stand on the hand of the lift queues and provide skiers with the information they long to know. In the daytime, after lunch, they will go to the pistes in a special uniform that will let people to identify them immediately. There their main task will be to answer to skiers’ questions about the ski resort, weather conditions and other things that might interest people. They will also help people to direct around the ski area.
There are such programs in the USA and Canada already and they seem to be a success there.
