2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen
Garmisch-Partenkirchen will host the Alpine Ski World Championships in 2011. At last, after six unsuccessful bids, Garmisch-Partenkirchen has won. For the third time, following the first event in 1936 and then in 1978, Garmisch-Partenkirchen will once again host the Olympics in 2011. Even Dr Edmund Stoiber, the Bavarian Minister-President, will be attending the Alpine Ski World Championships. This shows the importance of skiing in Bavaria. And once again, the Garmisch-Partenkirchen ski resort will gain even greater recognition around the world.

Naturally, the German delegation was overjoyed by the decision in Vilamoura, Portugal, during the International Ski Congress. Christian Neureuther and Rosi Mittermaier announced their intention to work with the German Ski Association (DSV) on an innovative plan to raise the profile of skiing and the Garmisch-Partenkirchen ski resort. As a result, hosting the Alpine Ski World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 2011 will give the resort another major event, in addition to its popular New Year's ski jumping competition.
German ski resorts, which often receive little attention internationally, will certainly move further into the spotlight and attract more international ski holidaymakers. Holiday apartments in Garmisch-Partenkirchen will be fully booked well in advance.
