The Netherlands will build its own ski resort?

The Netherlands will build its own ski resort?
The Netherlands will build its own ski resort?

The Netherlands is a very plain country, which citizens traditionally go on holidays into the mountains of Italy, Austria, France, Germany or Switzerland. However, ski resorts in the Alps and the Dolomites may soon meet the tough competition from… Holland. This country is going to build its own artificial mountain. The project on building the 2000- meter mountain can be realized in the near future in a rural area of the tulip country.

An ambitious project on building its own ski resort in the Netherlands will be implemented in the Flevoland region. It will be both ski and mountain resort, where in winter can improve their skills alpine skiers and snowboarders, and in summer - mountain bike fans and rock climbers.

Initially the idea of building its own mountain in the Netherlands was announced as a joke by journalist and athlete Thijs Zonneveld. But suddenly it found support in society and it began to be seriously discussed. On September 16, 2011 Mr. Zonneveldom said it in an interview with British broadcaster BBC.

According to the most conservative estimates, construction of a new ski resort in the Netherlands will cost about 300 million Euros. For Europe such project could be analogous to the most grandiose modern ski facility - indoor ski resort in Dubai.

Anyway, there were no reports of potential investors willing to invest in the project. However, mad at first glance this idea may well be embodied in a country, which conquered a considerable part of its territory from the sea.

It is worth noting that the Netherlands is not the only country, which intends to create its own ski resort. Denmark is another plain state of the region, which is also going to build a ski resort. However, here the idea is even crazier. The Danes offer to ski at the territory of the waste processing plant.
