Heavy snowfalls brought good news to the ski slopes of Alpine resorts. If it goes on, maybe in the next two weeks to the Austrian Zölden, which on October 23, 2010 has traditionally opened the ski season will join other European centers of active winter recreation.
Up to 60 cm - these are the results of heavy snowfalls, which took place in the Alps on Friday. To date, Austria is holding the leadership on the number of ski resorts in Europe, where the ski season is open. About 7 regions in Austria offer ski vacations. Among them is the biggest - the Tux Glacier. Tux is the most extensive area for skiing, not only in Austria but also in the world. There are available approximately 40 kilometers of tracks. Kaunertahl, Kitzsteinhorn, Mölltal and Sölden - all these ski resorts in Austria have already received first amateur and professional skiers.
Engelberg, Saas-Fe, Zermatt, and now Diavolezza near St. Moritz - these are the ski resorts of Switzerland, which are waiting for tourists on its slopes right now. Zermatt is still out of competition - on its glacier the snow cover is 173 centimeters.
Tignes ski resort in France opens the season on October 23, 2010 along with the Le-des-Alpes. However, after the completion of the fall school holidays in France, Le-des-Alpes will be closed again and Tignes will remain, perhaps, the only resort where skiing is available in the first week of November.
Ruka resort in Finland announced its opening on October 19. It is possible that on October 29 to it will join several ski resorts in Norway. On the next week are expected season openings at the largest ski resort of the country - Trusile.
