On January 1st, 2009 Slovakia joined the union of 12 countries that consist the Euro zone. One of the biggest and most influential ski operators in the country - Klaster Liptov – declared that they have no intention to raise prices due to this fact. According to ski operator’s management use of common European currency means simplification for the guests as now they do not need to change currency.
The management of the largest in Slovakia ski resort Jasná Nízke Tatry has been getting ready for adoption of Euro since the beginning of this winter season. Katarína Šarafínová, resort’s marketing director, informed: “Ski pass prices have been calculated in Euros rather than the old Slovak korunas since the beginning of the new season. We are fully prepared for it and there will be no price increases in accommodation or skipasses.”
Ski Park Ružomberok, the second biggest ski resort in Liptov region, also will not increase prices for skiing. Tomáš Gazdarica, Ružomberok’ s marketing manager, confirmed that the prices will be intact and only insignificant changes due to rounding of prices while converting are possible. So in general, adoption of Euro in Slovakia is welcomed both by local ski areas representatives and holidaymakers. The only drawback of using common currency is that now there will be no coins unspent during holidays – until now they were among the most popular souvenirs.
