Three of five Scottish ski areas, those located on the Eastern part of the country, are open now. The snow layer on the majority of mountains is good for skiing and the weather forecast is rather promising. The other two ski areas, those located on the Western part of Scotland, can be launched later this week if snow conditions persist.
At Cairngorm the rope way functions above Aviemore operating within the limited terrain including the M1 Poma, the Ciste Tow and the Polar Express Tow. Runs down the Ciste Fairway, the Traverse, Upper Cas, 105, Zig Zags and funicular middle stations have been already opened.
At The Lecht Ski Centre and at Glenshee the ski condition is great, fresh snow completely covered the runs, the Sunnyside and Butcharts runs are the best now foe skiing and snowboarding. The majority of lifts in these ski areas are already functional.
A representative of Nevis Range near Ben Nevis and Fort William on the West Coast reported this weekend: “We have lost quite a lot of snow from the lower mountain and gained some at the very top, however there is not enough to give access to the upper runs, so unfortunately we are not going to open on Sunday. The summit has fresh snow, the goose has a thin breakable crust which looks good from a distance, but is disappointing when you are on it. The gondola is closed until 19 December for annual maintenance and reopens on 20 December for the winter season. Should there be sufficient snow we will be operating ski lifts from next weekend throughout the holidays except Christmas Day.”
