Fédération Internationale de Ski (The International Ski Federation) cast a ballot for Schladming, a small town in the Styria area in Austria to host the 2013 Alpine Ski World Championships. This famous Austrian ski area convincingly won the voting that took place in Cape Town, South Africa, at the FIS congress. The results are clear, so the second round is not needed. The other possible destinations to hold the event were Vail/Beaver Creek (four votes) and St Moritz and Cortina (one vote each).
FIS Alpine Ski World Championships already took place in Schladming 31 years ago. But the last time such event hold in Austria was in 2001 when the Championships was staged in St Anton, a prominent ski resort situated in Tyrol, western part of Austria. Also in the framework of by the 46th FIS congress were decided that the 2012 FIS Ski Flying World Championships will take place in Vikersund, Norway, the 2013 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships - at Val di Fiemme in Italy, the 2013 FIS Freestyle World Championships in Voss, Norway and the 2013 FIS Snowboard World Championships in Stoneham, Canada.
