Skiing in Italy

Skiing in Italy is a real experience. Italy is a very well known and popular ski area. The best-known winter sports center in Italy is located in the North of the country, in the Alps and in the Dolomites. There are many different opportunities for ski vacation there. One can practice all kinds of winter sports over there, such a skiing, cross-country skiing, sledging. And winter walks are also possible there.

Every ski fan will find some winter activity for his (her) liking. In Piedmont, precisely in Turin, Winter Olympic Games took place in 2006. This fact proves that the infrastructure of the entire region in around Piedmont is technically kept up-to-date. Those, who are not yet good at skiing, will find excellent ski schools in this region. The best are situated in Montagnedoc. Skiing in Italy is a real alternative to the traditional ski resorts located in Austria. Piedmont region has so many ski areas as no other European ski region. There you can do snowboarding, for instance, or skiing or try cross-country skiing.

Other major ski areas in Italy are South Tyrol, Valle d’Aosta and Bolino. There are 130 km of slopes available for ski holidaymakers in Alta Badia in South Tyrol. Moreover, this ski area has 51 lifts that deliver skiers to the top of the slopes. If you ski at Alta Badia it is better to start with Corvava (1,586 m), Colfosco (1,645 m) or La Villa (1433 m).

It is also recommended to visit the ski resort of Val Gardena. It is situated in the Seiser Alm. This ski region is situated at heights from 1,060 to 2,518 meters above sea level in the middle of an impressive mountain range in the Dolomites. Other famous resorts in Italy where you can enjoy adventures of skiing are St.Urlich and St.Cristina.

There are plenty of variants of accommodation in all ski regions of Italy. Numerous hotels, holiday houses, apartments and cottages invite tourists to enjoy picturesque landscapes during winter vacation. The majority of the Italian ski resorts offer ski equipment rentals for those, who do not have their own ski gear.
