Sauerland Winter Sports Region
The Sauerland is known for being the “land of thousands hills” and this tourist region in the North Rhine-Westphalia is beautiful not only in summer for hiking tours (this area has got almost untouched nature) but also in winter because it is “the biggest winter sports area in the North of the Alps. Being the Winter Sports Arena, the region of Sauerland has more than 50 winter sports area. The best-known winter sports resorts in Sauerland are probably Winterberg in Willingen. Being known for many international winter sports events such as the bobsled run, Hochsauerland Winterberg already bears the quality in its name. Since Stefan Raab in the recent, its legendary WOK WMs in Winterberg is the city that almost everybody knows. The Winterberg lift carousel is the largest ski area and its facilities include more than 15 different lifts that open an access to the slopes of different complexity. You will be able to practice alpine skiing as well as snowboarding. There are many ski huts here as well.
However, the biggest snow area of the Alps has much more to offer and bare facts only prove this. The vast winter sports arena of Sauerland has got more than 57 ski resorts with a total number of 148 ski lifts. One can enjoy skiing on its slope that vary from easy to difficult level slopes. The distance can be up to 2 kilometers as well. The region of Sauerland is also considered to be one of the best-equipped regions. Being a great winter sports arena, Sauerland is stress free. It is no matter at all what ski resort in Sauerland you will choose, all of them are equipped with a great number of lifts, so you’ll easily avoid long queues. The Sauerland is also well-known for its snow as the good winter sports conditions are always guaranteed in the region. There are modern high snow cannons and snowmaking systems in the region that start making snow at appropriate temperatures and provide the skiers with the first class winter sports. The best known ski resorts are the skiing center Fahlenscheid in Olpe, the winter sports park Sahnehang in Winterberg, the ski area Brilon, the skiing center Snow World Züschen and the ski resort Sternrodt Willingen.

Skiing in Switzerland: strong franc enables big discounts
Because of strengthening of the Swiss franc against euro and dollar prices for holiday in Switzerland have significantly increased and many tourists prefer to visit less expensive resorts in French or Austrian Alps. Seefeld will celebrate the end of winter
At the world-famous Austrian ski resort of Seefeld on February 19 will be organized Maskentreiben 2012 festivities. Originally a small celebration created by local residents for the tourists evolved into a vivid entertainment show, enjoying great popularity among the guests of the resort.

Ice festival at Norwegian ski resort
This year the Ice Music Festival will be held from 3 to 5 February, while the ticket price will be about 300-400 NOK for the entire festival. Ticket holders will be able to reach the venue of the festival on a free bus from the central square of Geilo.
