Skiing in Germany

Skiing in Germany is very popular as Germans are one of the largest winter sports nations. And skiing in Germany is one of the most popular winter sports. It is possible to say that skiing is some kind of a national winter sport. It is one of the most popular leisure activities in winter in this country – especially for those who live in vicinity of snow regions. The Alps and the Central Mountains can provide plenty of snow for the alpine skiing and cross-country skiing. In the flat country one can find famous ski halls, and even the Rhineland state with the capital in Düsseldorf can hold the International Ski Competitions: Düsseldorf FIS World Cup skiing takes place every year on the Rhine bank since 2002.

The Bavarian Alps and the Alps is a paradise for German ski enthusiasts. Berchtesgaden, Oberstdorf and Garmisch Partenkirchen are famous all over the world. But skiing takes place not only in the German Alps. The largest ski region in the North of the Alps is called Sauerland. There are many famous ski resorts there including such places as Winterberg and Willingen. Schwarzwald is also an excellent place for cross-country skiing and alpine skiing. The Thuringian Forest, Harz and Eifel – all those regions are good for skiing.

By the way, Germany belongs to the number of the most successful nations in competitions like bobsledding, luge and ski jumping. This country offers excellent facilities for these sports. No matter if it is ice skating or dogsled races or romantic walks in the snow – all these belong to winter sports all the same.
