Axamer Lizum
The Olympic Skiworld in Innsbruck is composed of nine ski areas, e.g. the Stubai Glacier and Axamer Lizum, ranging from 856 – 3,210 m in altitude. All of the areas are situated near Tyrol's capital, Innsbruck, and are connected to the city and surrounding holiday villages by free ski buses. Axamer Lizum, with its 41 km of piste, belongs to the Innsbruck Olympic region and became famous as the host of the 1964 and 1976 winter games. Due to its good location, it is snow-sure from December to April. Rosi Mittermaier was on these pistes and won Olympic gold. The Skiworld offers a total of 285 kilometres of very diverse pistes, which are predominantly of easy to intermediate level. Yet there are even exciting descents for experienced skiers. These can be found for example around the Seegrube in the area of Nordpark. Here you will find the 1 km long ski tour “Karinne”, which is deemed the hardest descent in the area. Also very popular is the 4.7 km long medium-difficulty Olympic descent at Patscherkofel. Those who are fascinated by the landscape can enjoy the panorama whilst skiing the 10 km long valley descent. The best and most well-known snow park is the Skyline Fun park in the Nordpark area. With views of Innsbruck you can enjoy the jumps, slides, tables and a half-pipe good enough for competitions. Further snow parks are available in Axamer Lizum and at Rangger Köpfl, and great off-piste opportunities round off the selection for boarders.
