Ski resorts in Bulgaria will improve food services

The agency for food safety of Bulgaria started active checks of catering services in connection with the start of the winter tourist season at Bulgarian ski resorts. The reason for such large-scale action was the fact that serious violations were revealed during the late summer spot checks of such facilities. Representative of the Bulgarian agency for food safety Lubomir Kulinsky also said that many cooks at the Bulgarian resorts do not have professional education, which violates the nutrition law.

Bulgarian agency for food safety will verify the origins, terms and storage conditions of food, register facilities and equipment compliance not only in restaurants, cafes or cafeterias, but also in grocery stores. Kulinsky said: "The fact is that large grocery store networks do not utilize surplus food stock food, but deliver this food to the resorts, which in turn affects the whole tourism industry". It is especially true for small two and three star hotels. Many luxury hotels have large food making facilities with rich assortment of dishes, which are usually served on all inclusive system, however small hotels often do not have sufficient technical capacity to provide for a wide selection of dishes for the buffet. These hotels will likely be denied the right to work on "All Inclusive" system.

This problem is especially relevant due to such events as the Student Day and beginning of the winter holidays. During this time ski resorts attract many students who mostly for small and cheap hotels. Winter resorts in the Sofia region, Bansko and the Rhodope Mountains will continue to work until the end of the tourist season.
