Christmas in Austria: quiet Igls

(Australian Ski Areas)

Only 7 kilometers from the famous Austrian ski resort of Innsbruck is located a little village Igls. And even though the distance is quite small, the difference between these two resorts is colossal. Innsbruck is the legend of skiing, a center of folk art, here was the residence of Emperor Maximilian, and still remains a lot of architectural monuments. Here you can spend several days just visiting museums and doing shopping in many boutiques. Innsbruck also has very bright and intense nightlife. Here are regularly held noisy parties and public events.

A completely different image will appear in front of travelers, who visit Igls. Located on a beautiful sunny plateau at the foot of the Patsherkofel Mountain Igls is a classic Tyrolean village as if specially designed for lovers of nature and quiet relaxation. Small, charming hotels, quiet restaurants - everything is arranged so that visitors can fully enjoy the charm of Winter Alps. Even the holidays here are special. On December 23 on Christmas Eve every year in Igls is held a wonderful children's parade. Starting from 12.00 on small streets moves a procession of children dressed in Christmas costumes of shepherds, angels, Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, as well as other biblical characters. They are mostly local kids, but tourist children with costumes can also participate in the parade and there are many such participants. Many families specially come with their children in Igls to meet there Christmas.

But do not think that Igls is a very patriarchal place, sport infrastructure here is very developed and are created all the conditions for good skiing. Moreover, in Igls as well as in Innsbruck were twice held the stages of the Winter Olympics. This resort is especially popular among skiers who come to Austria for the first time. Because here they have a chance to get acquainted with almost all the major ski areas in Tyrol. It also has a system of free buses to other resorts in the region.
