Vacations at numerous ski resorts located in France always means more than alpine skiing. Andros Trophy, the ice racing series that will take place at Alpe d'Huez in French Alps, is one more proof to this statement. Andros Trophy is a famous racing series established in 1990 by professional racer Max Mamers. This year Alpe d'Huez ski resort will host it on December 19, 2009.

It should be mentioned that Alpe d'Huez is just one of the number of ski resorts that host various Andros Trophy rounds. Two rounds of this spectacular racing series have already been held. The series started on December 5, 2009 at Val Thorens, the second round took place on December 12, 2009 at Grandvalira ski resort in Andorra.

Alpe d'Huez’s round of Andros Trophy will gather the number of famous racers and world’s leading carmakers. Among the participants such legendary persons as Alain Prost and his son Nicolas are awaited. Romain Grosjean, one more famous F1 pilot, will take part in competitions driving a Renault Clio.

It is expected that the Alpe d'Huez round will be not in the least less spectacular than the races of the previous years. In 2009 not only car racers but also bikers will demonstrate their professional skills. In total 20 bike racers will take part in the ice races. The competition is named Pilot Bike.

But it is natural that the main event of Andros Trophy will be the car races. There will be several categories. Experienced profies will compete in the main category called Ice Formula One. Junior racers will contest in the framework of Andros Academy. And the novelty of this round will be electric vehicles rally named Trophée Andros Électrique.

Alpe d'Huez is a famous French ski resort situated in Rhone Alps region. The peak of its popularity the resort experienced during 1970-80s. Back then it was considered to be one of the most well known and visited sites for spending winter holidays in France. Nowadays it has lost part of its significance and yielded the palm to more modern and dynamic sky resorts as Courchevel, Tignes, Val d'Isere and the like. Nonetheless, Alpe d'Huez hosts world’s skiing competitions on the regular basis. The nearest event will be FIS World Cup’s stage that is scheduled for January 11-13, 2010.
