New Zealand Is Ready For Snow Fun

(Other Ski Regions)

At the moment ski resorts situated on both North and South islands of New Zealand are ready to provide snow fun for winter sports amateurs. The South Island’s Coronet Peak has opened this year having the best starting conditions for ages. Turoa located on the North Island has launched two weeks earlier than scheduled and can boast of about 110 of snow base.

Coronet Peak’s Ski Area Manager Hamish McCrostie imparted his happiness: "It’s a long time since we had this sort of cover on opening day. It was a very social day with people catching up with friends and having a ball. We were able to open the Greengates Express Six Seater as well as the Coronet Express Quad, the Meadows Double and surface lifts in the learners’ area. It was just great to see long time locals back on the hill, many of whom we’ve welcomed on opening day for 25 years or more".

Mount Hutt situated on the South Island also benefits from rather advantageous weather conditions. Its trails have been excellently groomed and now conform the highest standards. The back country conditions are not so beneficial yet due to ice crust forming at the base. But meteorologists predict more snow in the nearest days, so the ski season will keep increasing revs.
