Meteo France To Cut Number Of Weather Station
(Snow Regions in France)
Pistehors.com referring to the the Dauphine Libere report informs that the French weather forecasting organization Meteo France is planning to shut down some of its local weather forecasting stations situated all over the country in order to cut raising costs.
This shutdown will affect the whole Rhone-Alpes region immensely – only three stations will stay open in the area, probably ones based based in Grenoble, Lyon and Dijon. Chamonix and Bourg St Maurice regional weather centers are most likely to be closed. Meteo France is also intending to dismiss the majority of its employees – only about 1.000 people of the current 3.500 will keep their jobs.
Meteo France is planning to install new powerful system of weather modeling that enables regional centers to make local predictions, but Chamonix station employees tell that it is not even been tested. So here comes the question would be the local weather predictions as reliable as previously and would the cost cutting measures be no threat to people safety.
