Alaska will Be the Next World Ski Destination

(USA Ski Country)

Since the many ski resorts of Europe faced some troubles with snow (i.e. like it was the previous ski season), Alaska still has got very good chances to be one of the most popular ski destinations in the future.

The high chances of Alaska as the next large ski and snowboard destination are explained by the following factors: winter there starts their much earlier than in other parts of the world and then it lasts much longer than in Europe and American Rockies. Besides, it always promises good snow conditions and the average level of snow there is more than 630 inches a year.

However, there are also some disadvantages is Alaska, too. The main problem is that the day is not long at all in Alaska during the winter. Besides, there is a myth that it is much colder in Alaska than in the Rocky Mountains or the Swiss Alps. In fact, it is not so because if you go further to the continent at least 2 miles from the coast, it won’t be there so severely cold.

There are nine ski areas in Alaska that are mainly visited by the locals. However, the most prominent and the largest one is Alyeska. Many skiers and snowboarders come to Alyeska to experience extreme rush set, heli-ski or experience double black diamond runs.

Since Alyeska has got the new owner it is planned to renovate the resort. There have appeared the new pistes for beginners and a new snowboarding school. The snow cannons have also been upgraded. The hotels have also been renewed. Now they have got high-speed internet and a new spa service. All this done with the only goal – to attract tourists from other parts of the world and make Alyeska one of the top world ski destinations.
