Alpine ski resorts under threat

Global warming has become a very acute problem recently, especially for ski resorts. Nowadays climate shifts affect not only mountain ranges but they also affect the economy of many European countries.

Abondance, France is a real proof of this bad influence. Now it suffered from global warming more than any other resort city in France. For more than 40 years this ski station was economically profitable but last month the Abondance council voted for closing this resort because of being lack of snow. And the scientists say that many European ski resorts will suffer the same fate in the nearest future.

Taking into acount that fact that the Alps accept more that 70 million tourists every year they are especially sensetive to any change of a climate. It is a real threat to many ski resort cities in the Alps because the regional economies of many cities depend on a number of touriests visiting these resorts.

The mayor of Abondance, Serge Cettour-Meunier said that he feared that the closure of his station was the start of a troubling trend. As he mentioned, skiing again started to be a sport for the rich.
