Winter Olympic Games 2014 will be held in Sochi

It is quite an unexpected turn of events that Sochi will play host of the next Winter Olympic Games in 2014. All the competitions will take place in Krasnaja Poljana. No one expected Sochi to be a host city of the Olympic Games 2014 because the official contender to play host was Pyeongchang. According to the extra-official rating the main contender to be a host city was Salzburg. So, how did it happen that Sochi was the only one having just plans of stadiums and paths on paper?

There are several reasons for this. Austria was simply unable to find enough rooms for all the participants in its hotels. As for Pyeongchang, so there were no weak points in this place. But in Sochi all the Olympic objects are situated close enough to each other. The population was for Sochi being a host city. The government also did their best to make Sochi a host city.

The President of Russia Vladimir Putin visited Guatemala where he took part in the Sochi presentation. He also had an opportunity to communicate with the members of the International Olympic Committee. This fact also played an important role in the choice.
