Switzerland: Ski vacation for 100 years!

You may hardly believe it: only 100 years ago Switzerland "was "discovered" for Ski winter vacations. And firstly there were skaters who filled the hotels of the Swiss resorts.

Shortly before the beginning of the 20th century the first ski vacationers travelled in Bernese Oberland and in Zermattertal and ski clubs originated everywhere. Only in 1902 the first ski running of Switzerland took place in Glarus. Winter sports attracted fans and this resulted in an increasing number of different ski events as well as the number of visitors in ski places. In 1928 the Winter Olympics were held in Saint Moritz. 20 years later winter Olympic Games were held there once more. Today Switzerland is one of the most popular winter sports regions in the world thanks to its snowy skiing areas, modern transportation facilities, varied offers to people of all ages.

Today it is not possible to imaging a ski vacation as not existing in Switzerland.
